First Weeks at Home

The last two weeks have been a blur and to be honest I am not sure where the time has gone. Everyone is adjusting well to life at home. We came home from the hospital on Tuesday and started to fall right into a routine. It is amazing to me how much of her womb life has translated to her time outside the womb. Nick stayed home the whole first week with us and was a big help with diaper changing and housework. Being that Avery is a breastfed baby this allowed me more time with her and to sleep. As much as he hates shopping he has willingly run errands here and there to make sure mom and baby have everything we need. He is so smitten with her.

Avery is a pretty laid back, scream-free baby (at least for the time being). She is a good eater and a good sleeper. Since we have arrived home she has been sleeping in roughly 3 hour increments. We went to the pediatrician after a full week home to find out that she has already gained back all the weight she lost in the hospital plus a little more, coming in at a solid 7 lbs. The doctor was very impressed with her weight gain and even said we could stop waking her up at night to feed! I'm not sure Avery heard that message because other than the occasional 4 hour stretch she is still waking up about every three hours to eat.

Zoey (our dog, for those of you that have not met her) is a great big sister! She is protective of her little sister and the first one to the pack n' play when she starts to wake up/cry. I am not sure she completely gets why Avery gets all of the attention but she has been very accepting of the new arrival to our home.

I simply cannot believe how much she has changed in the last 2 weeks. She is really starting to fill out and get a personality all her own. She is smiling in her sleep (hasn't quite figured it out when she is awake yet and even laughed in her sleep last night). She is absolutely mesmerizing and we are pretty sure we could watch her sleep all day long. We have been working on tummy time and as you can see by the picture below she prefers to spent her tummy time sleeping, which I am pretty sure dad enjoys more than she does.

We also celebrated a VERY low-key first Father's Day! No big plans, which I promised Nick would be different next year. Avery got him his first father's day card and even wore a special shirt that read "Daddy Makes Me Smile" to celebrate the day!
